Covenant
Covenant!
n.
1. A binding agreement
Genesis 29:15-18
15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?
16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.
18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.
When Jacob saw Rachael he knew that she was his wife. There was no doubt about it. You know those people in your life you just make that instant connection with and it's like wow your amazing! I mean he loved her!He didn't care what he had to do to get her so he made an agreement with her father that he would serve for however long just to have her! She was his goal and the Labor in what he had to do was worth what it was that he wanted. So romantic for a hopeless romantic! (Sigh lol)
Whenever you think about covenants in the bible they are made by God. God makes theses covenants with people as a promise in which they shall come to pass. Laban said what shall thy wages be? Just look at the words shall and be. Shall means something that will take place. Be means to exist! All together it means that something will come to pass! God made many of covenants like with Noah after it flooded he said that he would no longer flood the earth and this would be the sign of his covenant. Now when it rains we see a rainbow to remember the promise (Covenant) that he made with Noah!.jpg)
Beguiled
|
Genesis 29:25
And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
Have did something to reach a certain goal but when you go to reach that Goal or destination you end up in a place you really don't want to be. I mean you did everything right? I did what we agreed yet this is not what you said? Jacob worked for 7 years to Rachael and ended up with Leah. Talk about angry yeah Leah's cool and all but I'm really not in love with her like I am Rachael! I honestly would have never worked this long if I knew I would end up with Leah I probably would of just did something different with the last seven years of my life because Rachael is what i wanted! Um I thought we had an agreement this is not what I asked for. You feel lied to tricked and you wonder well where did I go wrong because this is not what I asked for and this is not what we agreed upon.
Think about the promise of heaven! Imagine running this race to tell people that Jesus is real that he died on the cross and oneday he will return and we will dwell in heaven. Yet when we die there is nothing that God told us there would be. Um Lord I thought you said.....you would be angry and lied to but the bible says
Numbers 23:19-20
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Pinky Swear No Crossies Count!
Swear: to bind by an oath
Genesis 24
And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
Abraham wanted a wife for his Issac because he was near death. So he had has servant go out to another land to get his son a wife! Someone who would be worthy of his son! So he made the servant swear to him that he would go get his son a bride. This was a promise under God like a covenant that he would do just so. Kind of like when a man and a wife make a vow before God! Yet though he had this vow before him the woman had to be willing to come back with him. If not then the oath would be void.
Genesis 24:8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
Genesis 24:8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
You can't make someone do something that they do not want to do. They have to willingly offer them self. We think about Christ he is known as the groom and the church is bride. Yet the groom has to willingly want to offer himself to the bride which Christ did when he died on Calvary. So then us as sinner's have to want to give our lives to Christ then we become the bride of Christ. Yet unless your willing to do so then you are not in agreement. This is unequally yoked because Christ will never force you to serve him or do something in which you dont want to do. Yet to walk with God is to agree that what he has is better or best for us.
Let it Come to Pass!
Genesis 24:14
And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
The servant went on his way and came to a well and began to pray asking God for a woman for Issac. He was very specific in his details on what it was that he wanted. He wanted it to be a shall be moment. Meaning what I am asking you for let it come to pass! So it was as if this woman had an appointment with God because it was already planned before she had even to came to the well!
The Answer to Prayer
Genesis 24:15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
It soon came to past in which Rebekah came down to the well with her pitcher on her shoulder. She had done everything in which the servant had asked and the servant was amazed and knew instantly that this was Issacs wife! It's like Rebekah had proved her love for Issac without even knowing just as Jacob worked all those years to prove his love for Rachael! The only problem was is that now that she knew that she was who God wanted for Issac she had to be willing to go.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Coming into agreement!
Genesis 24:58
And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
Genesis 24:58
And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
When a man and a wife have a covenant of marriage together they leave the mother and father and become one flesh. Meaning they leave home and come together as one. Yet like I said before it's like Christ they have to come to an agreement and be willing to want to come together! Rebekah had to come to an agreement that she wanted to go that this man would be her husband!
Whenever I tell people about Jesus I tell them I can't really want it for you! You have to want Christ for yourself! You have to believe yourself. No one can want it for you, it's not something that anyone can make the choice to do to receive him but yourself. That's why it says the man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. They are both making the choice that this is what they want and no one else can make the choice for them. Your parents can't want it for you, others around you can't want it for you yet it is something you must want for yourself.
